How to Choose the Perfect Confetti for Your Wedding

Let’s be honest, the confetti moment is one of those wedding highlights everyone remembers. You’ve just walked back down the aisle, your guests are cheering and suddenly you’re surrounded by a swirl of colour, laughter and pure happiness.

From my point of view, it’s magic. The confetti throw is one of the most fun and emotional moments to capture, but here’s the thing: not all confetti is created equal. The type (and amount) you choose can completely change how it looks in your photos.

So, if you’re wondering what to go for, here’s a little guide to help you pick the right one for your day.

Match It to Your Wedding Vibe

Think of confetti as the finishing touch that ties everything together, like the exclamation point at the end of your “we’re married!” moment.

• Classic & elegant? Soft ivory petals or biodegradable white paper always look timeless.

• Romantic? Go for dried rose petals or pastel tones — they float beautifully in the air.

• Bold & fun? Bright colours or metallics bring loads of energy and look amazing in photos.

• Rustic or boho? Dried lavender or wildflower petals add that lovely natural feel.

Basically, pick something that feels like you.

Be Kind to Your Venue (and the Planet)

Most venues these days ask for biodegradable confetti, especially outdoor ones and honestly, it’s a win-win. It looks gorgeous, it’s safe for the environment and it makes cleanup a breeze.

Some great eco-friendly options:

• Dried flower petals (like delphinium or hydrangea, they float beautifully)

• Biodegradable paper confetti (available in loads of colours)

• Herbal mixes (lavender and eucalyptus smell amazing)

Work Out How Much Confetti You Actually Need

This is one couples don’t always think about, but it makes a world of difference. Too much confetti and your photos can end up looking like a colourful snowstorm, faces hidden, emotions lost. Too little and it can look like a few bits of debris floating around.

A good rule of thumb:

• Plan for about one handful per guest who’ll be throwing.

• If you’ve got a big guest list, you don’t need to supply it for everyone, just enough for the aisle sides or your closest guests.

This is where your guests come in. To get that amazing photo, tell them to throw up and out, not straight at you (trust me, it’s much better when you’re not covered in confetti dust in the first second!).

A few quick tips:

• Leave a bit of space between rows of guests — it helps fill the frame.

• Hand out plenty of confetti; it always looks better with more in the air, not just in the bags.

• And honestly? If you can, do two confetti runs. The second one is usually even more fun!
